Sri Lanka is known for its kottu - if you haven't had it,
they say, you haven't really experienced our food. It's made from diced
godhamba rotti and meat/vegetables. Cheese kottu is a relatively new invention
and it's now a very popular order.
Made from wheat roti and
spiced vegetables, egg, or meat, and various spices, kottu roti forms a
tasty dinner meal . Made on a heated
iron flat pan, kothu is chopped and mixed using two blunt metal blades, which
creates a very distinctive sound that can be
heard in all roadside restaurants in Sri Lanka. From being
a cheap, takeaway meal for the lower classes, it has become a favorite mid
night snack of night clubbers and party goers in Sri Lanka.
We've put together a list of our favourite spots in Kandy
for cheese, chicken kottu after visiting a bunch on popular recommendation. We
tried to cover variety - different kinds of cheese, different kinds of
preparations.
